I am Sylvanus K. Finney, the artist. I was originally born in Freetown, Sierra Leone. My work has an influence of my African heritage mixed with American influence. I paint with oil to tell a story through my paintings. My work is vibrant and thought-provoking.  

I fled my country months before Sierra Leone’s Civil War that lasted over ten years. This tragedy shaped my perspective after immigrating to United States.  Fortunate being a survivor of my country’s civil war and also learning to cope with the culture shock of a new country, I became engulfed in the world of art. I taught myself more advanced elements of sketching, painting, and photography techniques.
